Motorola A780 is a sight to behold
I just got myself a smartphone. The Motorola A780. Since laying my hands on it today around 1600 hours, I have been feverishly digging around.
The 780 boasts of an Intel chip, a processor that is faster than my first PC. I bought my first desktop in early 96. The Pentium 166 Mhz. Oh, what joy! And today I have a cell phone which has a 312 Mhz processor. Whew!
The feature list is quite elaborate and I wouldn’t copy it all here. But here is what you must know, 780 has handwriting recognition capabilities. This means that I can write a message instead of typing. Next, it runs linux. Although, a closed source variant - Monta Vista.
I could telnet into the phone, install one of the consoles and I get a CLI on my phone. Technology is bliss! And, it’s got excellent voice recognition. It even reads out every message that gets delivered to my inbox.
Hi,
I am interested in this model too. But, when tested this in an outlet, the handwriting recognition seems to be terrible. Also how is the quality of over-the-air bluetooth sync of outlook.
I currently own an Palm Z22, the writing recognition is superfast and IR sync up is cool.
As my deciding factor are outlook sync and writing recognition, I am really looking for some help on these parameters.
Thanks in advance
August 4th, 2006 at 2:22 pmhandwriting recognition fails at times. That is, on rare occasion, an ‘e’ may be interpreted as ‘r’. I have no other qualms about handwriting recognition.
About syncing with Outlook — I haven’t tried it. I use Linux and just bought the phone to try things like telnetting to it and such.
Can’t help you about syncing with Outlook.
